Inspired by the fashion and art worlds, paint companies also use color to express mood and feeling. So when both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams chose shades of green as their 2022 “Color of the Year,” it was no surprise, as the color green is uplifting.

Green inspires. It soothes and relaxes. I have used shades of green for many years on my design projects. Green is all about nature. It helps soothe us, and makes us feel rested, secure, and calm.  It’s one of the many reasons why we love indoor plants. Plants and other things brought inside from nature help us feel that our homes are a place of peace and sanctuary. A place where we can recharge ourselves at the end of each day.

Picture yourself getting under the covers of a bedroom painted in October Mist CC-550. The color will pair well with your neutral linen-color duvet and window treatments.

Your creative juices may flow more freely when you are sitting in your home office staring at not just any walls, but the wall covered in this color, which is sure to help you cure your writer’s block.

Can you see yourself cooking a dinner (filled with healthy greens in other shades of green of course!) in your light-filled kitchen with Benjamin Moore’s Gloucester Sage HC-100 on lower cabinets or perhaps just on your island?

Another option for a light-filled kitchen would be using Mysterious AF-565, a rich off-navy on lower cabinets.

In a darker Kitchen, you can use October Mist on lower cabinets and your Island and a classic white like Dove White on the upper cabinets or one of the new whites like Steam Af-15.

Don’t forget the importance of testing your colors in real light!  With lots of light, it will appear more green and less earthy than in a darker room.It is important to see the paint in the environment where it will be, not just what you see in a showroom or not on the pages of a magazine. Order a sample. Live with it. See how you like it as your light transitions from day to night, whether it is natural light or if you typically turn the electric lights on in the room.

Choosing paint colors can be tricky, which is why it’s important to have a trained eye helping you decide. Let’s create something beautiful in your home!
